TMA Demands 17mC From Landlords

Tema (GAR), July 11, — The Tema Municipal Assembly has started serving demand notices to claim more than 17 million cedis from owners of unauthorised structures which have either been demolish In all about 55 people whose properties were affec ted mainly at Ashaiman and community four are being charged with the cost of demolition. Those who fail to pay up will be sent to court. Mr Samuel Akoto, Tema municipal engineer who disclosed this to the GNA said the amount being demanded covers the cost of hiring bulldozers and tipper trucks as well as allowances for personnel He said as part of the TMA beautification programm e for the harbour and industrial city, the assembly is compiling a list of all uncompleted and dirty buildings along major roads and their owner Smaller houses will be given a period of up to three weeks to paint them while buildings like the Mankoad ze coldstores which has not rpt not even been plastered will be given a specific time to Mr Akoto said the TMA last May began a demolition exercise as part of its face-lift programme for the township.
