German Government hands over copies of signed bilateral agreements to Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The German Government has handed over copies of bilateral agreements signed between Ghana and Germany to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

This was part of efforts to recover documents lost in the fire that gutted the Ministry’s nine-storey building in Accra in October 2009.

The fire, which resulted in the Ministry relocating to the Flagstaff House currently, destroyed several historical documents including those dating back to Ghana’s independence from Britain in 1957 and the Ministry’s original copies of the agreements.

Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration receiving the documents, lauded the long-standing good relations between Ghana and Germany, describing it as a productive and excellent bilateral and multilateral relationship.

He noted that Germany had proved her good relations with Ghana through her efforts in multi-donor budgetary support and other programmes including the Shared Growth and Development Programme.

Mr. Eberhard Schanze, German Ambassador to Ghana, expressed delight to present the documents and stressed the need for continued good relations between both countries.

He pledged Germany’s support to the Ministry to complete the construction of its on-going new office complex.**
