Seven more fire victims buried

Burial took place at Axim on Tuesday of seven more victims of a fire outbreak at a pre-mix fuel depot at Bawire last month.

The victims were Samuel Kwesi, 21, Joshua Nyamekye, 40, Justice Arthur, 53, Anthony Amissah, 47, Benjamin Cudjoe, 40, J.S. Addah Quansah, 46 and Dominic Dauda, 42.

Speaking at the burial and memorial service organised by the Local Council of Churches and the Nzema East Municipal Assembly at Axim, Mr. Paul Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister said the disaster was a clarion call to the people to unite and assist each other in times of need.

He expressed joy about the way community members and the Ghana National Fire Service went to the scene of the accident to rescue those at the pre-mix fuel depot and commended the medical team who attended to the victims at the Axim Government Hospital.

Mr. Aidoo said this showed that Ghanaians are one people who should bury their political, religious and cultural differences to move the country, the region and their communities forward.

He said “It is significant that those who went to the assistance of the people at the depot did not care whether they were National Democratic Congress or New Patriotic Party or questioned their ethnic background.”

Nii Amasa Namoale, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in-charge of fisheries, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs Catherine Afeku, Member of Parliament for Evalue Gwira Ajomoro, Mr. Kojo Appiah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Shama, Reverend Ackah Cobbinah, Nzema East Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Sylvester Dadieh, DCE for Jomoro and Mr. Ransford Ninson, Regional Police Commander, were among the dignitaries that attended the function.**
