Wa Polytechnic Governing Council congratulates UWR Minister

The Governing Council of the Wa Polytechnic has reiterated its commitment to make the institute become a world class centre of Applied Science and Agricultural Technology that would churn out the needed manpower for Ghana’s development.

Professor Jacob Songsore, Chairman of the Council said although the Polytechnic was getting only three percent funding from the GETFund, it was still committed to putting up infrastructures that was consistent with modern infrastructure, especially at the tertiary level.

The Council led by the Chairman, Professor Jacob Songsore said this when he led its members to pay a courtesy call on Alhaji Amidu Sulemana at Wa on Friday, during which they congratulated him on his recent appointment as the Upper West Regional Minister.

Professor Songsore said their visit was purposely to brief the Regional Minister on their faculty building project as well as a hostel complex, which had contracts on them terminated and to solicit for support to complete the them.

Alhaji Sulemana commended the Governing Council for the manner in which they handled the affairs of the Polytechnic that had aided it to grow up to this stage.

He said agriculture is a sector where about 72% of the region’s population was engaged in, adding that Polytechnic education had the potential to bring in lots of innovation by way of manufacturing simple agricultural tools to assist farmers to increase production.

He said the government had interest in Polytechnic education and had demonstrated that on several occasions and assured them that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would surely support them to complete the two projects.**
