Pupils share classrooms with goats and fowls at Abutia-Teti

Madam Rejoice Asase, Headmistress of St. Francis Basic Schools at Abutia-Teti in the Ho Municipal area, has expressed worry about pupils in the School having to contend with goats and fowls during class hours.

This she said, is because all classroom blocks in the School are without doors and windows thus exposing the pupils and learning materials to the vagaries of the weather and animals.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Madam Asase said checks at the Ho Municipal Assembly indicated that the contractor who failed to provide the doors and windows could not be traced.

Madam Asase said some of the classrooms and corridors were also not cemented, causing worm infestation among the pupils who play in the sand.

She said the School also lacked adequate furniture with as many as four pupils squeezing themselves into a mono desk.

Madam Asase said the situation was discouraging pupils from coming to school even though the school was put on the School Feeding Programme.

She appealed to the Ho Municipal Assembly to help resolve the situation to promote quality teaching and learning.

Madam Asase said teachers at the School were working hard to improve the academic performance of pupils in the School and hoped with the support of stakeholders, the School could move from zero per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to become one of the best in the Municipal area.**
