Two Policemen Charged For Assault

Tema (GAR), July 10, The Tema circuit tribunal today granted two policemen 500,000 cedis bail each to reappear on August five for allegedly assaulting and extorting money from a carpenter. Police constables Robert Nsor and Kennedy Frimpong were charged before the tribunal on two counts of assault and extorting 70,000 cedis from Egya Abeka. They pleaded not guilty. Assistant Superintendent of Police M.A. Yerenkyi, the prosecutor, said one Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi requested the accused persons to guard his plot which is being encroached on. Whilst there, the accused persons arrested the complainant for riding a bicycle in the night without lights. The peace officers then assaulted the complainant and collected 70,000 cedis from him. Egya Abaka reported the matter to the police and the accused were arrested.
