E-Procurement in the Offing

The Ghana Public Procurement Authority (PPA) is to undergo E-procurement to cut back on lots of paper work, as a means of speeding up purchasing and supply within the public sector.

Mrs Rhoda Appiah, Principal Public Relations Officer of the PPA told the Ghana News Agency in Essipon near Sekondi during the just ended Policy Fair, that the move was aimed at ensuring effective record keeping.

She added that World Bank, the financiers of the E-procurement programme had already engaged consultants to fashion out modalities for its operation.

The E-procurement project is to be piloted by the last quarter of the year.

Mrs Appiah said there would be amendment to ACT 663 that established the Authority in 2004, aimed at ensuring transparent and competitive bidding within the public sector.

She said the amendment would critically look at the composition of the board of the PPA and the threshold level of procurement.**
