Court jails driver’s mate 12 years for theft

A 27-year old driver’s mate, Kofi Konadu, who broke into the Nhyiaeso shop of Ashanti Television Company Limited in Kumasi and made away with items valued at GH¢14,260.00 has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Appenteng told a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong that, the crime was committed on June 6.

The workers of the company had locked the doors to the shop after close of work at about 1900 hours and left.

They returned the next morning only to discover that it had been broken into.

Among the stolen items were, a Canon digital camera, Sony video camera and Yoga and Shike stereo headphones.

The prosecution said a formal report was made to the police and exactly a week after the theft, the company received information that Konadu was trying to sell a video camera that had no battery and the police were alerted.

They tracked him down and the camera was found to have been stolen from the shop.

Investigations led to the retrieval of the other remaining electrical gadgets.**
