Security Man Hangs Dead

By Kingsley M. Dogbey

A 50-year old security officer, Henry Togui Adifu, who worked with the Akatsi College of Education (AKATSICO), was last Monday found hanging dead on a farm near Agbedrafor in the Akatsi District of the Volta Region.

He has worked with AKATSICO for the past 3 years.

According to a brother of the deceased, Simon Adifu, Henry woke up at about 4am and was never seen again.

“In a few hours, there was a loud shout of help by Madam Dzatugbi Klu, who went to work on her maize farm. Before we got there, my brother was hanging dead by a green nylon rope, tied to a blackberry tree in the middle of the lady’s farm”, Simon told The Herald.

The family, meanwhile, suspects a foul-play, saying “he was killed by an unknown person, who hanged him.”

The deceased was found on his knees in the rope.

The family’s argument is that the distance between the branch of the tree to which the rope was tied and the ground was too short for someone, who really wanted to kill himself by hanging to choose.

Henry’s remains have since been conveyed by the Akatsi Police to the Police Hospital for autopsy.

He is survived by a wife with three children.

Mr. Jonathan Ametefe, a colleague security of Henry’s at AKATSICO told this reporter that he was on night duty with Henry on Wednesday night, but noticed him behaving strangely.

He said at dawn of Thursday, he could not find Henry and decided to look for him. After a frantic search, he finally found Henry in the kitchen.

He said Henry could not say or answer any question he (Jonathan) asked him. He thus ordered him to write on a paper, anything he wanted to say, as well as a telephone number of someone from his village, Agbedrafor near Akatsi.

Henry was later rushed to the St. Paul’s Hospital in Akatsi, where he was given medical treatment and was discharged.

Mr. Ametefe revealed that in the company of some other colleagues, they visited him the next day, Friday, only to hear of his sudden death on Monday.
