Volta & Muslim caucus in parliament visit Hohoe

A high powered delegation from Ghana’s parliament is headed to the Hohoe Township in the Volta region to ascertain the level of damage caused by the recent clashes.

The delegation made up of the Volta regional and the Muslim caucuses in parliament are expected to interact with the relevant authorities in Hohoe on arrival.

Their visit has been necessitated by the unfortunate clash between the Zongo youth and traditional authorities over the exhumation of the Chief Imam of Hohoe last week Sunday. This conflict led to the burning of some property, forcing the Regional Security Council to impose a dawn to dusk curfew on the area.

Hundreds of residents reportedly fled the area for fear of being attacked. Two people have died as a result of the mishap.

The National Chief Imam has been to the township to call for calm and promised the traditional authorities that he would ensure that all items including the regalia which the authorities say have been stolen are returned.

Vice President John Dramani Mahama also visited the area, met with the chiefs and leaders of the area and promised government’s commitment to ensuring that sustainable peace returns to the area.

Relative calm has returned to the area.

Meanwhile the Paramount Chief, Togbega Gabusu has accused the Police for standing aloof while violence prevailed saying that the violence could have been averted if the Police was a lot more active and firm.**
