Mr. Mohammed Bashiru, an educationist from Agona Duakwa, has declared his intention to contest the Agona East Parliamentary seat as an Independent candidate.
Mr. Bashiru made the declaration when he officially launched his campaign to contest the 2012 parliamentary election at Duakwa in the Central Region.
He said his top priority would be to tackle the falling standards of education in the Constituency, adding that his attention would also be placed on the promotion of technical education.
Mr. Bashiru observed that since 1992, Agona East had had three Parliamentarians, yet the constituency lacked some social amenities that could improve the lives of the people.
He said when elected, he would use his share of the Common fund to benefit every school child in the constituency.
“I will also lobby for non-governmental organizations (NGOs), corporate bodies and other foreign donors to support Agona East development programmes when elected”.
Mr. Bashiru assured the constituents he would conduct a clean and decent campaign devoid of insults, acrimony, character assassination and other actions that could spark off violence.
He pledged to improve sporting activities in the constituency and appealed to the people of Agona East to vote massively for him for positive change.**
