Farmer remanded for alleged murder over “wee”

The Nkawie Circuit court presided over by Justice Frank Owusu Afriyie has remanded a 32 year old farmer into prison custody for alleged murder.

Samuel Akwasi Agyei was said to have hit the deceased Yaw Mensah with a big stick during a fight.

His plea was not taken and was ordered to be brought back on Thursday, June 28.

An accomplice, one Atta Kakrah, is on the run.

Police Detective Sergeant Jonas Agyei told the court that the accused and the deceased are both farmers at Afriyiekrom, near Sreso-Timpom in the Atwima-Mponua District.

On June 5, at about 1930 hours, the deceased reportedly went to the house of the accused to buy cannabis (wee).

There, the two picked up a fight, during which Agyei picked a big stick and hit Mensah hard with it.

He collapsed and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A report was made to the police by the assembly member for the community and he was arrested.

The body of the deceased have been deposited at the Bibiani hospital mortuary for autopsy.**
