Media urged to be mindful of the nation’s peace

A Kumasi-based businessman has cautioned against the unbridled use of the media as preparations towards the December polls intensified.

Mr Opoku Agyeman-Prempeh, Managing Director of Lakayana Company Limited, said journalists needed to be mindful of the nation’s peace and be guided by professional ethics in the performance of their duties.

He reminded them of their responsibility to ensure that unguarded and irresponsible statements by politicians are not sexed-up to cause tension and confusion.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh said what Ghana needed was peace and unity to consolidate the democratic gains made within the last two decades.

He appealed to politicians to engage in healthy campaign devoid of insults and focus on issues that affect the people and tell them how they are going to make things better for the ordinary Ghanaian if given the mandate to lead the nation.

He appealed to the people to be tolerant of opinions and views that they might not necessarily share.

Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh said Ghana had come of age, and that all should work together to address its socio-economic challenges.**
