The Chinese government has provided funds for the construction of a 3,000 capacity new Burma Hall with a library, a computer centre and other modern facilities at a cost of 8.5 billion cedis at Burma Camp, Accra.
In addition, the government would construct new housing units at all military barracks in the country at a cost of 2.7 million dollars.Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence, who announced this, said these were part of measures to motivate the soldiers.
He was answering a question on government programmes to motivate military personnel to perform efficiently at the People’s Assembly held as part of activities to mark the ninth anniversary celebrations of the Fourth Republic in Accra on Monday.
The Minister of Defence said 20 million cedis was spent on training a special cadet corps to respond to emergencies under the Emergency Unit at the 37 Military Hospital.
Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, Minister of Interior, said the Police Training Depot was being given a face-lift because the training of the manpower needs of the Ghana Police Service was necessary for an efficient and effective Service.
