Porter jailed 10 years for possessing 112 wraps of “wee”

A porter caught with 112 wraps of cannabis, weighing 487 grammes, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Yakubu Mumuni, alias “Mon Ami” was charged with illegal possession of narcotic drugs and pleaded not guilty.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Doris Amewu, told the court presided over by Justice D.W.P Amedior that, personnel from the police drug law enforcement unit arrested the convict on July 28, 2010, at about 1740 hours at Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.

They received a tip-off that Mumuni was peddling the drug right in front of the Nkawie Mosque and quickly moved there.

They apprehended him and when a yellow polythene bag he was carrying was searched, the dried leaves in wraps were found.

The prosecution said the convict in his caution statement mentioned one Akwasi as the source of his supply but he could not be traced.

The substance was sent to the forensic laboratory in Accra for examination and was confirmed to be cannabis.

Mumuni in his defence denied ownership of the substance and insisted he was arrested at the market as he offloaded tubers of yam from a truck.**
