Muslim Students Urged To Spearhead Crusade Against Ignorance

Wa (U/W), July 7, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West Regional Minister, has urged Muslim students to spearhead the crusade against ignorance, disease, poverty and under-development in their communities. He said the communities are plagued with such social evils as child delinquency, drug addiction and sexual promiscuity which are a serious threat to their progress and development. These, he said, cannot be eradicated without the involvement of the youth in educational programmes. Alhaji Sulemana made the call in a speech read for him by the Nadowli District Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Suglo, at the 14th annual convention of the Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana Muslim Students Association at Wa at the weekend. The convention had the theme: ”The Muslim student, the only hope for the future of Muslims in the country.” The Minister told them to discard negative aspects of the religion, promote peaceful co-existence with people of different religious sects and endeavour to portray Islam as a religion of peace.
