CPP Elects Abu Sakara As Presidential Candidate

An Agronomist and former Vice presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Abu Sakara, was on Saturday, elected as the party’s Presidential candidate for the 2012 elections.

Dr Sakara, who was declared by the Electoral Commission as the winner in a contest held at the Essipong Stadium in the Western Region, won by 1,139 votes representing 55.2% of the total votes cast.

His competitor, Accra-based Lawyer Bright Akwettey, polled 917 votes representing 44.8% of total votes cast.

About 16 ballots were rejected.

A total of 2,300 delegates exercised their franchise to elect a leader for the party.
