Sakumono residents given 200 Street Lights kits

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, at the weekend presented 200 street light kits to the residents of Sakumono, to help improve security in the community.

The equipment formed part of a 460,000 Ghana-Cedi lighting system package, meant to address security problems within the Tema Metropolis.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who is also the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Tema West, described the growth and development of Sakumono as having occurred in leaps and bounds, and said it was not surprising therefore that security has become the basic challenge facing its residents.

He said it is for this reason that the equipments were being supplied to illuminate the entire community, to help the security agencies clamp down on the activities of criminals in the area.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said apart from the 200 street lights, he would ensure the rehabilitation of 100 existing ones in the community.

The Minister said the Community Two Police Station, Communities Three and Five, the Sakumono Village, Adjei Kojo and Klagon, were among the areas which have so far benefitted from the street lights package, adding that Baatsona and Lashibi, are yet to get their fair share of the equipment.

Mr Mark Okusu, Chairman of the Chapel Square Residents Association, received the items on behalf of the various Sakumono Residents’ Associations, and thanked Mr Ofosu-Ampofo for the kind gesture.**
