West African ambitions of setting up a single currency have inched closer, after a meeting of 15 states in Dakar, Senegal. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) chose the name “eco” for a new currency, which will be used in Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
