Man remanded for defiling 15-year-old girl

Simon Anumah, who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl, was on Wednesday remanded by a circuit court in Accra.

The accused pleaded not guilty and he would re-appear in court on May 22.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac A.A.Ahor said the victim lives with her mother, the complainant, a chop bar operator at Adenta New Site, while the accused, who lives at Pantang, Shalom Estate, is a regular customer of the complainant.

The prosecution said the accused asked the victim to visit him and on April 1, this year, she left home for church and continued to the house of the accused after church.

Chief Insp. Ahor said the accused convinced the girl to spend the night with him and defiled her.

The prosecution said when the victim returned home the following morning, the mother asked her where she spent the night the previous day, and she narrated her ordeal to the mother.

Chief Insp. Ahor said the accused was arrested and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital.

In a caution statement, the accused admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency.**
