Eshiem Community calls for the destoolment of Chief

The indigenes of Eshiem, a village in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis, over the weekend demonstrated over the alleged indiscriminate sale of family lands by their chief Nana Kojo Kuma III, and called for his destoolment.

The demonstration, which started at about 1500 on Sunday afternoon at the Essikado Taxi rank, ended at the Palace of Nana Kobina Nketiah where a petition was presented.

The Eshiem Community falls under the Essikado traditional area under the leadership of Nana Kobina Nketsie.

The petition was received by Obaapanyin Esi Krampoah, Mother of Nana Kobina Nketiah, who promised to forward it to the King for appropriate action to be taken.

Ebuduspanyin Kofi Suro Nipa, head of the Tamrease Ebiradze Family and leader of the demonstrators, mentioned the sale of 428 acres of land to one individual as the final stroke that broke the camel’s back.

Other charges levelled against the Eshiem Chief included the lease of 10 acres of land to one Kwamina brothers, sand winning on Esuegya land and sale of 30 acres of land to alleged port workers.

The rest are: felling of trees on all Eshiem lands, building of unapproved bridge that restricts the flow of Anankwan River and illegally appointing family heads.

“The entire families of Tamrease Ebiradze wish to bring to your notice that he, Nana Kojo Kuma III, is not fit to conduct the affairs of Eshiem village any longer and thus his impeachment is recommended”.**
