Work commence on Himan Junior High School block.

A sod cutting ceremony has been held for work to start on the construction of an eight-unit classroom block for Himan D/A Junior High School in the Prestea/Huni Valley District.

The project would be financed by Nana Nterboah Pra IV, divisional chief of Himan.

Speaking at the function, the divisional chief said when the project is completed, it would have an Information Communication Technology (ICT) center and a library.

In addition, Nana Nterboah Pra IV said, an educational fund would be set up for the people of Himan by the end of this year to assist needy but brilliant students in the community to further their education to the highest level.

He advised parents to ensure that, children of school going age who has abandoned school and rather engaging in illegal mining to desist from that practice and concentrate on their studies.

Mr. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, District Chief Executive for Prestea/Huni Valley, commended the chief for his commitment towards education in the district.

Mr. Kyereh Boateng, the District Director of Education for Prestea/Huni Valley, expressed worry over the poor performance of candidates in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Himan.

He said investigations conducted by the directorate showed that, the continual decline was because most of the candidates, after registering for the final examination, deliberately stop schooling.

Mr. Boateng appealed to parents to support the Education Directorate to end this habit by paying regular visits to schools to see their children.**
