Tema United Cadres Front condemns NPP supporters’ action

The Tema Sub-Regional Branch of the United Cadres Front (UCF), on Thursday condemned the acts of vandalism exhibited by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in support of Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency.

The UCF, a pressure group of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), condemned the actions of the NPP members at a press conference in Tema.

Mr. Camillous Sakzeesi, member of the UCF Media Relations Team who addressed the press conference said: “it is the position of the UCF to condemn the action by some NPP members who thronged the CID headquarters, not in a solidarity mood, but to protest violently against the lawful arrest of Mr. Kennedy Agyapong.”

Mr. Sakzeesi condemned the vandalism which characterized Mr. Agyapong’s court appearance during which the State Attorney’s car was damaged.

He said the UCF was appalled at the action, “especially so when the NPP is quick to normally refer to the UK and USA when it comes to democratic governance.”

He questioned whether “in these democracies, legitimate actions taken by state institutions in issues of this sort, would elicit the ugly reaction that took place, and whether the institutions of state would accommodate it.”

The UCF also called on Former President John Agyekum Kufuor to rather advise his party followers to desist from acts of vandalism, instead of him calling on President John Evans Atta Mills to act in cooling down tension in the country.

The UCF commended the Police Service for the action taken so far and reminded members of the Service that, no matter the frustration they might be going through, they should remain resolute in their determined engagement in making this country a peaceful one, as it has always been.

They praised members of the NDC in Accra for not reacting to the “provocative undertakings” of the NPP each time their members were invited by the security agencies.

They also advised members of the NDC to resolve not to do anything that would merit negative reportage.**
