CPP to elect presidential candidate on May 12

The Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) is to elect its presidential candidate for Election 2012 on May 12, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the party’s General Secretary told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday.

The National Delegates’ Congress would be attended by 11 delegates from each of the 230 constituencies, Council of Elders, representatives from the party’s tertiary networks and other identifiable groups.

Mr. Greenstreet, said the congress would pave the way for the party to respond to the positive call by Ghanaians for the CPP to redeem the nation from blood thirsty, violent and ethnocentric politicians.

He assured all Ghanaians of CPP’s continued commitment to pursue peace and stability for a free and fair election in December

“We are confident that Ghanaians will respond positively to our campaign on issues that are fundamental to the growth and prosperity of our nation and vote massively for the CPP”.

Mr Bright Akwetey and Dr Abu Sakara Foster are the two candidates vying to be elected presidential candidates.

Mr Greenstreet congratulated the two aspirants for the amicable and comradely manner they are conducting their campaigns.

“This has contributed to increase the cohesion within the party and created an atmosphere of unity and focus, as the CPP prepares for the coming elections,” he said.

The CPP General Secretary commended the Electoral Commission for conducting a memorable Biometric Voter Registration Exercise.

“The EC has overcome the initial operational hiccup and is conducting a largely trouble-free National Biometric Registration exercise,” Mr Greenstreet said. **
