We are unenthused by NPP’s hypocrisy – Ashanti NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region says it is unenthused by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) dissociation from the inflammatory statement by its Member of Parliament for Assin North, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Evidence on the ground, it said, does not show that the leading opposition party is genuinely committed to the promotion of peace, unity and cohesion of the nation.

A press statement signed by Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman, said the posture and actions of the NPP suggest that it has an agenda to cause confusion.

It catalogued instances where it claimed NDC agents had been brutalized and guns pulled at them at the on-going biometric voter registration centers in the Suame, Subin and Asokwa constituencies for challenging the qualification of minors, to buttress the assertion.

Additionally, the NPP and its agents have prevented some people from taking part in the registration.

The NDC said such behavior certainly could not be helpful to the peaceful co-existence of the people and the growth of democracy.

The NPP in a statement, on Tuesday, by its National Chairman, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, in Accra, on Tuesday said the party did not support any intemperate statements and actions that could incite and inflame ethnic passions.

It said the party was aware that Ghana is a proud multi-ethnic country and that “The NPP, a truly national party, is committed to jealously guarding and promoting this heritage.”**
