KMA would not succumb to threats – MCE

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), would discharge its duties effectively without fear or favour in order to bolster development of the metropolis.

Mr Samuel Sarpong, the KMA Chief Executive, who said this, added that “The Assembly would not succumb to threats, intimidation or any form of harassment such as invoking curses by some residents with the view to forcing the KMA to compromise on its responsibilities.”

He noted that the KMA had recently been inundated with the invocation of curses by some residents as it enforces its bye-laws to ensure sanity and discipline.

Mr Sarpong said such actions would not in any way force the Assembly to do the wrong thing.

He said: “I am covered by the blood of Christ and as such have no fear for curses or actions that are designed to create panic in the Assembly or compel us to follow the crowd wrongly”, he intimated.

Mr Sarpong was addressing the 90th Presbytery Conference of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbytery Church of Ghana (PCG) in Kumasi.

The five-day event aims to serve as a platform for the Presbytery to take stock of its activities and planned effectively for the future to enhance Presbyterianism.

Mr Sarpong pledged the support of the KMA for socio-economic programmes initiated by the church, to improve the living conditions of the people.

The Assembly, he said, considered the church as a partner in development.

The Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the PCG, called on the participants to take deliberations at the conference seriously for their benefit.**
