Kwabre West NPP and NDC chairmen promote peace

The Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwabre West Constituency have launched a joint initiative to promote peace, understanding and cooperation among their supporters.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the NPP Chairman, and his NDC counterpart, Alhaji Osei Boosie, have been visiting biometric registration centres in the area together to encourage party agents and registration officials to play by the rules to ease tension.

They said their goal is to help provide the right environment for the smooth registration of all qualified voters in the area.

The electoral roll compilation has generally gone well in the Constituency with no reported violent incident at any of the centres.

The two leaders said they were confident the atmosphere would continue for the rest of the registration period.

Alhaji Boosie told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the visits afforded them the opportunity to assist the party agents, applicants and registration officers to do the right things.

He said there is no basis for a simple exercise of voter registration to generate so much heat and nasty clashes.

Odeneho Appiah, on his part, said the political parties need to send powerful signals about their commitment towards upholding the peace before, during and after the 2012 general elections.

He described as shameful reported cases of intimidation and violent clashes at some registration centres across the country.

They are determined to set good examples for their supporters and help to remove acrimony and defuse tension.

Odeneho Appiah urged eligible applicants to go out in their numbers to register.**
