UDS Students In Clean-up Exercise

Bolgatanga (U/E), July 2, Members of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Environmental Club in collaboration with the Bolgatanga district assembly and second cycle institutions in the Upper East region have undertaken a clean-up exercise at Bolgatanga. The exercise, which was part of the Republic Day activities saw students cleaning the central market and hospital, desilting gutters along major streets and picking of polythene bags. Briefing students after the exercise, Dr. Albert Tenga, district chief executive for Bolgatanga said the town is one of the fastest developing areas in terms of human population in the country. He said in view of this, the district assembly has decided to establish community environmental committees to tackle sanitation. Dr. Tenga said the government has approved the construction of a modern market, places of convenience and the rehabilitation of major roads and streets in the district as a means of improving the situation.
