Asantehene gets biometric Voter ID Card

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was on Friday issued with voter identification (ID) card after going through the biometric voters’ registration.

He registered at the Manhyia Palace centre together with his wife, Julia, and was accompanied by the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Sarpong and some Paramount Chiefs.

Mr Samuel Tetteh, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), supported by other registration officials, took the Asantehene through the process.

Mr Tetteh told GNA that the exercise was so far successful in the region except for few reported cases of assault and intimidation.

He said the EC was doing everything possible to ensure that all eligible applicants were registered.

Mr Tetteh said security would be beefed up at the registration centres to prevent thugs from disrupting the process.**
