Okwahuman Youth Association sponsors mock examination for BECE candidates

The Okwahuman Youth Association, a benevolent youth organization in the Kwahu area, is to organize mock examinations for 310 final year Junior High School (JHS) pupils in 15 selected less endowed basic schools.

The exercise estimated at a cost of GH¢1,650 is to enhance the performance of the pupils in the Kwahu West Municipality in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The association has consulted some BECE examiners to set the questions in all the nine examinable subjects, print them and send them to the schools to conduct the mock examination.

After the examination, their teachers would discuss the questions with the pupils to assess their performance before writing the final examinations.

Mr Richard Asare, the Vice chairman of the Association, on Tuesday, presented the question papers to the Municipal Education Directorate at Nkawkaw.

He said the gesture was the Association’s contribution to assist the basic school pupils to pass the BECE to enable them to further their education at the various Senior High, Technical and Vocational schools.

Mr Asare said the association organized a similar mock examination for a number of final year JHS pupils in 14 selected schools in the Municipality last year, which yielded positive results.

He urged teachers in the beneficiary schools to ensure effective supervision during the examination to avoid cheating and other examination malpractices.

Mr Asare said the association would launch its educational endowment fund on April 9 this year at Nkawkaw to raise funds towards awards of scholarships to needy but brilliant students in the Kwahu area to further their education.

He therefore appealed to non-governmental organizations and other well-to-do Kwahu citizens to contribute to the fund.

Receiving the examination papers on behalf of the beneficiary schools, an Assistant Director of Education in charge of Monitoring and Supervision, Mr Kofi Nsiah, thanked the association for their contributions to improve on the standard of education in the municipality.

He said officials from the education directorate would cooperate with teachers in the various schools to ensure effective supervision during the mock examination.**
