EC urged to prosecute double registration offenders

Participants at a day’s workshop on the biometric voters’ registration at Winneba have suggested to the Electoral Commission to prosecute people for multiple registration and to delete their names from the voters’ register.

This will serve as deterrent to others and also help to have a credible voter register.

The participants made the suggestion after they had been taken through the rules and regulations of the biometric voter registration exercise.

The participants were made up of traditional rulers, heads of departments, representatives of religious bodies, civil society and political party representative in Winneba.

The programme organised by the Electoral Commission was under the theme “Enhancing the credibility of the voters register”.

The participants appealed to Ghanaians to adhere to the laid down principles of the forthcoming election to enable the nation have free and fair elections.

The Effutu Municipal Electoral Commission Officer, Mr Anthony Oppong,

urged the participants to spread the knowledge about the registration to people in the community to help make it a success.

A similar workshop was held at Breman Asikuma for the chiefs, selected groups and political party representatives and it was conducted by Mr Gabriel Dowuona-Hammond, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Electoral Officer.**
