Groups calls for investigations into alleged aliens registration

The Effutu branch of the Team of Popular Youth has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security agencies to investigate allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency had decided to assist some non-Ghanaians to register but the party denied it.

A statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Atta Mensah, and a copy made available to the Ghana News Agency in Winneba appealed to the authorities to take step to prevent the NPP from perpetrating the electoral fraud and its possible backlash on the peace in the town.

It alleged that the NPP had held meetings with groups including the Nigerians undergoing training in Winneba and that the NPP was making efforts to secure birth certificates for them to enable them to register.

The statement said “In a similar development, we had news from some senior high schools in the constituency that under aged students are being prepared psychologically to register for the same purpose”.

The statement appealed to the EC and all stakeholders to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the Biometric Voter Registration.

Mr Theophilous Kodwo Halm, the Effutu Constituency Chairman of the NPP, denied the allegations and told the GNA that they were baseless and calculated to discredit the party and its parliamentary candidate.

Mr Halm expressed regret that several attempts had been made by opponents of the NPP to tarnish the image of the candidate.
