Swedru Police nabs man with fake currency

The Agona Swedru Police have arrested a 21- year-old unemployed man for possessing fake currency, the Swedru District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Osei Shaibu, has said.

Speaking to reporters at Agona Swedru on Monday, DSP Shaibu said the suspect, Francis Nyakoh, on March 12 went to Paragon Spot and ordered some drinks.

He said the suspect gave a GH¢5 note to the complainant, Mr Patrick Cobbold, the owner of the Spot.

Mr Cobbold found the money to be fake and sent the suspect to the police station and when he was searched two GH¢20 notes, five GH¢10 notes and eight GHC5 were found on him.

DSP Shaibu said the suspect was escorted to the Swedru District Police Station and in his caution statement admitted that he picked a wallet at Kaneshie Station that contained the amount but did not know they were fake currencies.

The District Police Commander said, in another statement, the suspect told the police personnel at the counter that he picked an envelope containing the money in a Metro Bus he boarded from Accra to Agona Swedru.**
