WUSC assists 12 communities with water and sanitation facilities

Twelve selected communities in the Bibiani- Ahwiaso- Bekwai District are being assisted with water and sanitation facilities to help improve the lives of the population.

They are Kofikrom, Kojinabu, Atronsu, Sukusuku, Awaso, Asempanay, Nkateso, Anhwiaso, Subri, Chirano, Basengele and Bibiani Old Town.

An NGO, World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is collaborating with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the district assembly to sink boreholes, hand-dug wells and washrooms for the communities.

Mr Kwaku Karikari Amoah, WUSC Project Coordinator, told the GNA that the communities are also being trained on how to fix the facilities when they break down.

He said they have lined up training programmes to build the capacity and upgrade the professional competence of teachers in these areas to enhance academic performance.

Mr Karikari said they would help to make the school environment girl-friendly to increase their enrollment and retention, and to help with the joblessness among the youth. The NGO is paying for the apprenticeship of those interested in learning vocations and trades and the package comes with the supply of training tools and kits.**
