Effutu fishermen commends government for promoting fishermen industry

Fishermen in Effutu Municipality have commended the government for its effort at promoting the fishing industry by supplying them with fishing inputs.

Neenyi Moni Kiako, the Chief Fisherman for the area, said this when the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Quansah, met them at Winneba on Sunday as part of his tour of some fishing communities in the Central Region.

They expressed their appreciation to the government for its commitment to better the lot of the fishermen in the country and added that handing over to them the sales and administration of the premix fuel had helped them a lot.

Neenyi Kiako said within two years after the handling the premix fuel, they had been able to use some of the profit to construct a permanent building estimated over Ghc1,000.000.

He said Ghc100,000.00 has been distributed to some petty traders at the Winneba Junction to expand their businesses.

The fishermen thanked the government for providing them 41 outboard motors through the Member of Parliament, Mr Mike Hammah, and Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, on credit to be repaid by installment.

He appealed to the government to build landing beaches promised them to promote their business and protect their canoes from destruction during heavy rain storms.

Mr Quansah told the fishermen that work on the landing beaches will soon start as the government had received part of the Chinese loan.

He also visited Gomoa Nyanyano, Gomoa Fetteh and Senya Bereku and interacted with the fishermen.
