The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Mike Hammah has called on politicians to stop insulting themselves and deal with issues that would bring development to the country.
He said after 55 years of independence, politicians must let the development of the nation and the welfare of the people be their priority and must stop beating war drums to frighten the people.
Mr Hammah who is also Member of Parliament for Effutu, made the call in an address delivered for him by The Very Rev Eldad Bonney, Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly at an Independence Musical Concert at Winneba at the weekend.
The programme dubbed “Independence: The need for peaceful democratic elections” was organised by the School of Creative Arts, Department of Music of the University of Education Winneba(UEW), in collaboration with National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
Mr Hammah said, Government under the leadership of President John Atta Mills was committed to ensure a peaceful election before, during and after the December polls.
He stressed the need for individual persons, religious bodies, civil societies and political parties to join in the crusade against attempts to disturb the peace and tranquility the nation was enjoying.
“We have done a peaceful election before and we can do it again,” he said, adding that “at the end of the elections we still remain Ghanaians”.
Mr Akuamoah Boateng Director of NCCE in a massage delivered on his behalf said that the biometric machine had been introduced to detect multiple registration.
He said it was unlawful for any person to register or attempt to register in the name of another person, dead or alive, adding that anyone caught in the act will be prosecuted.
Among the Choirs that participated were the UEW Music Department Choir, Good shepherd Youth, Presbyterian Church, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic, Prophetic, Herald Youth and AME Zion choirs, all in Winneba.
