MTN Ghana Foundation has commissioned a four unit classroom block, office and a store-room for Obeyeyie Anglican Basic School at Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
The project, which was worth GHC 57, 781.00, was a request by Jonata Foundation, Non-Government Organization, to make quality education accessible to the community and its environs.
It is intended to put at least 320 more children in school to help reduce the increasing rate of absenteeism, school drop-outs, child labour and trafficking, and other vices in and around the community.
Mrs Nabilla Williams, Board Member of MTN Ghana Foundation, who recognized education as the bedrock for development, said the provision of quality education was a collaborative issue which should involve both government and the private sector.
She said MTN believed that continuous investments in the country’s educational sector would help raise educational standards and ensure equity in growth and development across the country.
“We at MTN recognize this reality and that is why as a conscientious corporate citizen we continue to support national efforts at bringing quality education closer to our communities”, she added.
Inspired by the name of the town, Obeyeyie, an Akan word meaning ‘it shall be well’, Mrs Williams assured the community that there was hope for them if they take advantage of the project and encouraging parents to enroll their children in the school to optimize the benefits of the facility.
She advised the youth of the community to take their studies seriously for a better future..
She expressed gratitude to Jonata Foundation, Traditional leaders and Authorities of the school for their cooperation and support in making the project a reality.
Mr Daniel Budu Asiedu, the Municipal Director of Education for Ga West, commended the company for their immense contribution in the development and delivery of quality education across the country.
He said government would soon convert the school to a public one to enable it enjoy the country’s free education and school feeding programme.
