Sustain peace to reap benefits of national unity –DCE

The relative peace that Ghanaians are enjoying since the inception of the 1992 constitution must be sustained for the country to reap the benefits of national unity and development, Mr. Clement B. Benin, Lambussie/Karni District Chief Executive has said.

He appealed to Ghanaians to exercise self-restraint in all national matters especially those concerning the 2012 general elections.

“Ghana will enjoy peace if on every ‘bad mouth’, a padlock is hung and the citizenry playing the roles as agents of peace throughout the year,” Mr Benin said.

Mr. Benin was addressing school children, security personnel and voluntary organisations at a parade to mark Ghana’s 55th independence anniversary at Lambussie.

He called on government to translate all political commitments into action and resources and equitably distribute them at the local level and place emphasis on the importance of partnership and capacity building to sustain peace and democracy.

Mr Benin said the youth must be assured of access to quality and equitable education and called on actors in the educational sector to work tirelessly to achieve success in every sphere of education despite the numerous challenges.

He appealed to teachers to work harder to improve the BECE and WASSCE results which were declining on yearly basis, adding that the district had moved from 31.7 per cent to 23.5 per cent in the BECE.
