Garu-Tempane District Assembly provides motor bikes for circuit education supervisors

The Garu-Tempane District Assembly in the Upper East Region has presented eleven motor bicycles valued at 14300.00 Ghana Cedis to Circuit Supervisors of the District’s education directorate to enhance effective monitoring and supervision of schools in the area.

The Assembly also distributed sports equipment including jerseys and footballs to 34 Junior High Schools in the District to promote sports in the area.

The move was part of steps taken to get teachers to make good use of their contact hours and minimize the district’s poor performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Assembly also provided solar lamps to at least one classroom in each of the local Junior High Schools which did not have electricity.

Mr David Adams Adakurugu, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, presented the items to the Directorate during the country’s 55th Independence Day celebration at Garu.

He noted that sustained peace and democracy for national unity and development would not be realised if the educational system in the country was not strengthened to produce productive and responsible adults.

The District Director of Education Mr Emmanuel Samba Zemakpeh, stressed the need for teachers to make good use of their contact hours since that was the best way of imparting the prescribed knowledge to their students.

He noted that government was providing the needed teaching and learning materials to promote education in the area and called on parents to complement the efforts by monitoring and supervising their wards’ education.
