Ex-convict jailed for three years

The Mpraeso Circuit Court on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old ex-convict to three years imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding three District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Kwahu area and also posing as a national security officer.

The ex-convict, Abdul Abubakari Sadique, pleaded guilty for fraud and posing as a staff of national security.

It would be recalled that,on February two this year, the Nkawkaw Divisional Police arrested Sadique for moving from district to district in the Kwahu area defrauding the DCEs.

He also posed as a staff of national security and claimed to be a special assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Alex Segbefia, and the Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa and a brother to Mr Mahama Ayariga, Deputy Minister of Education.

According to the prosecutor, Christian Apronti, the ex-convict from Bawku went to the DCEs of Kwahu East, Kwahu South and Kwahu West Municipality, Mr Samuel Asamoah, Joseph Omari and Alex Obeng, in that order, and introduced himself as an official from the national security sent on official duties.

He told Mr Asamoah that he had been sent by the National Security to inspect development projects in the district and later went to the Kwahu South to inform the DCE that he had asked to inspect the assembly’s development plan.

Sadique later proceeded to Kwahu West Municipality where he informed the MCE that the government was not happy with his performance and if he did not improve on it, he would be dismissed from office.

Giving judgement, the presiding judge said such a person should be kept out of the society as no one knows the number of people he had defrauded in other parts of the country.
