Businessman swindles Bocanada investor

The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has charged Kofi Owusu for defrauding a Mankessim based investor under the pretext of supplying him with Bocanada seeds.

Kofi Owusu pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong placed him in police custody until March 8, pending further investigations. Police Inspector Wilberforce Kwaku Appiah said that about one and half years ago, Owusu approached Mr Kwadwo Asante, the complainant, and informed him that trading in bocanada seeds was a lucrative venture and convinced him to invest 44,000 Ghana Cedis in order to be supplied with the seeds.

He said after collecting the money, the accused disappeared and all efforts to trace him proved futile. Inspector Appiah said based on some reliable information, Mr Asante led a task force to the hide-out of Owusu at Mankessim for his arrest, but the accused called boys from the town and fiercely resisted the arrest.

He said the police later served him with a summons to appear before the court which he complied.
