Storm destroys major property of Akpafu-Mempeasem Senior High

A rainstorm that hit the Hohoe Municipality and its environs on Monday caused major damage to the Akpafu-Mempeasem Senior High Technical School.

The about 30-minute rainstorm ripped off the roofs of the computer and the science laboratories, the Assistant Headmaster’s office, store room and two classrooms.

Ms Mercy Anyomi, the Headmistress of the School, said examination materials, stationery and other valuable documents that were kept in the Assistant Headmaster’s office were destroyed.

She said roofing sheets and wood works had been destroyed beyond re-cycling, 25 computers damaged by the rainwater, some ceilings have caved in and belongings of some students been destroyed.”

Ms Anyomi said the situation required swift response as teaching and learning had been hampered and appealed to public and private entities, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Education Service, Hohoe Municipal Assembly and Civil Society Organizations to assist.

The Akpafu-Mempeasem Senior High Technical, which was established in 1994, is a day school with private hostels.
