Police appeals to family of dead miners to collect them

The Tepa Police has appealed to the families of the remaining two of the five illegal miners trapped to death in a mine pit at Subriso Nfrante in the Ahafo-Ano North District to come for their bodies.

Kwame Okyere, Ernest Kwakye, Issah Ahmed, Kwame Ofori and one other person known only as “Tactics” were killed in a mine accident on Saturday, February 11.

The bodies of Okyere and “Tactics” believed to come from Abetifi and Bibiani, respectively, had remained uncollected.

Their family members have refused to show up.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Adu-Boahen, the District Crime Officer, said the authorities of the Tepa Government Hospital, were putting pressure on them to remove the bodies to create space at the facility’s morgue.

This had put the police in a dilemma.
