Fifty KEEA ladies undergo training

Elmina (C/R), Jan. 22, GNA – A total of fifty young women in the Komenda-Edna-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) constituency have successfully undergone a two-week intensive training programme in hair and dressmaking.

The training programme was organized and funded by Youth Enterprises and Skills Development Center (YESDEC), a development initiative by Government which seeks to facilitate the youth and get them employable skills so as to help them own and manage their own businesses.

A graduation ceremony had earlier been held for the ladies of whom 36 passed out in hair dressing while 14 of them in dress making. The various equipments they needed to start up their small scale businesses were however presented them on Friday at Elmina with dress makers each taking away an industrial sewing machine while hairdressers were given a standing hair dryer, manicure and pedicure accessories as well as massage and foot spa machines each.

Mr Gyamfi Dawood, the Central Regional Coordinator of YESDEC, said the items had been given to the ladies on credit and that they would pay the monies over a period of two years.

He said other areas of training included agro food processing, live stock rearing, welding, barbering and carpentry.

He said the programme was the first of its kind to be held in the Region and that another batch of 120 youth would be soon trained, urging the youth to seize the opportunity and register at the various MMDAs for free. Mr Isaac Sam, the Municipal Chief Executive of KEAA reiterated calls for the youth to make good use of the opportunity granted them in order to build up their own businesses.

He advised the beneficiaries of the programme to be hardworking, diligent and practice good customer relations in order for their businesses to grow. Mr Francis Mensah Brown, the KEEA Coordinator of YESDEC, presented the various items to beneficiaries.
