Tourism Authority to market Ghana through music

Sekondi, Jan. 22 GNA – The Western Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is promoting itself through the use of music to market the nation to the International Community.

Mr Michael Kpingbi, Acting Western Regional Manager of the GTA, said the patriotic words contained in music are convincing enough to unite people, portray a nation’s cultural heritage as well as ensure peace.

He said this when speaking at a cultural music festival in Sekondi to select the best choral group to compete at the national choral festival level in Accra in March.

He said his outfit is embarking on series of cultural choral festivals alongside it traditional duties with songs to be sung in the country’s local dialects aimed at bringing people together.

Mr Kpingbi said the effort would help attract foreigners to the country and provide an opportunity for the world to learn more about Ghanaian art, music and culture, whiles portraying out unique tourism products and services.

Some of the contents of the songs expressed gratitude to the country’s pioneers for their immense contribution to the growth of the economy and urged others to emulate them.

The Western Forties Choral group emerged the winners to represent the region at the national level, with the Wamco Voices placing second and Bethany Methodist Junior Choir coming third.

A.R.S. Choir took the fourth position while the Musama Church Choir placed fifth.
