Nigerian Arrested For Abducting Pupil

A 20-year-old Nigerian has been arrested at Bawku in the Upper East Region for abducting a six-year old pupil from Accra. He was arrested by the police at the Vanef-STC yard in Bawku where he was about to cross the border into Burkina Faso.

This followed a report made to the police about a struggle between a man and a boy who had refused to cross the border. Based on the report, a team of policemen were dispatched to the transport yard where upon interrogation, it came to light that the suspect, Mahamadu Nasiru had kidnapped the boy from Accra.

To escape detection, Nashiru had shaved the boy’s hair and dressed him in a Moslem gown. The boy, Kwame Addo told the police that Nashiru met him on his way home from Achimota School in Accra and told him that he would send him to Nigeria to continue his education.

He said he followed him but when they got to Bawku, he felt that he had missed his parents and friends at school so he demanded that he be sent back to Accra but Nasiru refused and that resulted in the struggle. The boy is currently under police care while Nasiru is expected to be arranged before court soon
