Volta Region not ready to shed NDC garb-Activist

Ho, Jan 14, GNA – The Volta Region is not yet ready to shed its garb as “storehouse” of support of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because of the party’s deepening relevance to the aspirations of the people.

Mr James Gunu, an NDC Activist said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Ho at the weekend said fears of voter apathy and support switch-over to other parties by people in the region were therefore untenable and without basis.

Mr Gunu said it was not an anathema for a region, for complex of reasons, to identify with a particular political party, because parties in some other democracies have safe seats and support domains.

He nevertheless urged the campaign machinery of the NDC to tackle the doubts of the people with facts and figures at the right time and places to maintain the support levels of the party in the region.

Mr Gunu said in the 2012 elections, NDC would take back the only constituency in the region-Nkwanta-North- ceded to the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), in the 2004 and 2008 elections.

He expressed the view that President John Evans Atta Mills had met the promises made to the people and showed so much candour in governance, which should be applauded by the citizenry who should honour him with a second term.

Mr Gunu who is the Secretary of the campaign group- Friends of Doe Adjaho, said it was in the interest of the NDC and the nation to have Mr Doe Adjaho, Member of Parliament for Avenor and First Speaker back to parliament.

He said he expected Doe Adjaho to cruise through the processes of vetting, shrug-off challenges at the primaries and triumph again in the coming elections to continue his good work in parliament.
