Western Region recorded 3,736 abortion cases in 2010

Sekondi, Dec.14, GNA – About 3,736 abortion cases were recorded in the Western Region in 2010, Mr. Frank Ofosu-Asante, the Regional Population Officer, said on Tuesday.

Addressing a meeting of the Regional Population Advisory Committee at Sekondi, he said the figure could be higher because of the low patronage of family planning services in the region.

He said 177 maternal deaths were recorded during the period. Mr. Asante said about 51,256 pupils in 115 schools benefited
