Inchaban (W/R), Dec. 10, GNA – Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, said at the weekend that government sees the computerised school selection system as the best in ensuring fair distribution of students to senior high schools.
The government would, therefore, do everything possible to clean up the system for efficient performance next year.
Mr Aidoo was speaking at a durbar to climax the 60th anniversary celebrations of Sekondi College (SEKCO) at Inchaban neat Takoradi.
The anniversary was on the theme: “Discipline, An Essential Tool for Achieving Educational Success.”
Mr Aidoo said the system faced some difficulties this year creating a lot of anxiety among parents.
He said government is committed to ensuring that all educational institutions are provided with adequate infrastructure to make teaching and learning more effective.
In this vein, Mr Aidoo appealed to stakeholders in education including school heads, students, teachers and parents to collaborate with government to ensure the restoration of the nation’s pride in academic attainment.
He said although discipline is the backbone of academic excellence and personal development, many students do not want to study to pass their examinations.
Mr Aidoo advised students to make good use of their time and study hard instead of relying on fraudulent practices.
Mr Joseph Ben Asmah, Headmaster, appealed for extra infrastructure to cater for the growing student population and staff.
He said there is the need for a new and bigger assembly hall since the old one has been converted into a dining hall.
