Convict receives additional five years sentence

Kumasi, Dec 8, GNA – A 20 year-old convict serving a six-month term at the Kumasi Central Prison has been given an additional five years sentence by a Kumasi Circuit for theft.

Sulama Moro was found guilty for stealing a bag containing the uniform, service identity card and “T” shirts belonging to a prison officer.

He pleaded guilty to the charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

Police Inspector Kwabena Oduro told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that the crime was committed in November last year.

The complainant, Akosua Akyere, is a prison officer at the Amanfrom Prison Camp in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.

Moro monitored the officer and got to know where she kept the keys to her room.

He therefore went to her house in her absence and lied to a co-tenant and a witness in the case Vivian Akuamoah that he had been sent by Akyere to pick some items from her room.

He reached for the keys, entered the room, and stole the bag containing the items.

A formal report was made to the police at Asuofua and investigations traced the crime to Moro.

He was later identified by the witness at the Kumasi Central Prisons.

Moro, serving a six-month jail term for stealing a cellular phone, admitted the crime in his caution statement.
